My WHY
Growing up, we are always asked, what do you want to be when you grow up? I wanted to be a figure skating coach. However, I heard 1 bad comment and that made me lose my confidence. Teaching never crossed my path until my late 20's when my older son started school.
WHY teaching:
When my older son started Kindergarten, I volunteered and helped out in the classroom several days during the week. I was never one that would stick next to my son and help only his table, but I would hop around to the other tables as well. It was during one of these times my sons teacher looked at me and said, why don't you just become a teacher? That got me thinking why don't I but what would I teach?
WHY high school math:
I decided to try substitute teaching so that I could test out the different grade levels and subjects and see which clicked the best with me. This click came a couple weeks after I was subbing in an Algebra II class. During this class, a student asked for help. After looking at the problem, I realized I actually remembered how to solve it. I opened up the help to the entire class, and as a class we worked out several problems together. A couple weeks later, one of these students saw me in a different class and said that I had really helped her that day. That was my clicking moment. From there, I went back to school and received my degree in math and became a licensed teacher.
WHY I continue teaching:
