Principal's Message
Hello, Eagle Nation!
My name is Charlie Pope, “Coach Pope” to most because between college and high school I coached basketball, and once you earn that title it sticks! I am entering my second year as the principal at Shelbyville Central High School. I served at SCHS as an assistant principal and co-athletic director prior to becoming principal. I have also served at Cascade High School as an assistant principal and prior to that as one of the school counselors and head boys basketball coach. I am in my 21st year of public education, serving them all in Bedford County. This is home; I grew up here. I am proud of the work of Bedford County Schools!
I have been married for twenty years to another educator Cindy Pope, who teaches at Community High School in their science department. We have two daughters, Addison, a Cascade High School graduate who is a freshman elementary education major at Freed-Hardeman University as well as a college volleyball player and Emma, a sophomore student at Cascade. We enjoy watching our daughters play volleyball and spending time with our family!
I believe in developing relationships both with our teachers here at SCHS and with our students and stakeholders any chance I have! We strive for academic excellence and work daily to make sure our students are safe and in an environment in which they can grow and excel. We are a Renaissance school that has won back-to-back platinum awards for excellence in school culture. Shelbyville Central believes in the Renaissance message, “We see you, we hear you and we love you”! This means we instill discipline and accountability by working with students, listening to them, and recognizing everyone is different.
At SCHS we have many Advanced Placement offerings for students as well as honors classes to make sure students can achieve at the highest level academically. Besides an active Renaissance program, we also have a very large, active Spanish club along with a wide variety of athletics and many numerous opportunities for students to become involved and have a well-rounded high school education.
Please explore our SCHS website, and if you have any questions about anything you see or read on here, drop me an email, and I will be happy to answer anything I can to help you learn more about all the great things happening here at EAGLE NATION!
