About Me
I currently reside in Rutherford County with my husband of 22 years and my 2 sons, Jonathon, 21, and Shawn, 17. In my spare time, I enjoy running, reading, completing cross-stitch patterns, and crocheting
This will be my 12th year teaching and my 12th year at SCHS. I have two undergraduate (BS) degrees in Marketing and Mathematics from Middle Tennessee State University. Go Raiders!! I am also currently attending MTSU as a graduate student looking to complete my master's degree in mathematics education.
I am looking forward to being your teacher this year!
My WHY
Growing up, we are always asked, what do you want to be when you grow up? I wanted to be a figure skating coach. However, I heard one bad comment and that made me lose my confidence. Teaching never crossed my path until my late 20's when my older son started school.
WHY teaching:
When my older son started Kindergarten, I volunteered and helped out in the classroom several days during the week. I was never one that would stick next to my son and help only his table, but I would hop around to the other tables as well. It was during one of these times my sons teacher looked at me and said, why don't you just become a teacher? That got me thinking why don't I but what would I teach?
WHY high school math:
I decided to try substitute teaching so that I could test out the different grade levels and subjects and see which clicked the best with me. This click came a couple weeks after I was subbing in an Algebra II class. During this class, a student asked for help. After looking at the problem, I realized I actually remembered how to solve it. I opened up the help to the entire class, and as a class we worked out several problems together. A couple weeks later, one of these students saw me in a different class and said that I had really helped her that day. That was my clicking moment. From there, I went back to school and received my degree in math and became a licensed teacher.
WHY I continue teaching:
Teaching is fundamentally an act of hope. Each lesson I deliver carries the hope of sparking curiosity and learning. When I support a struggling student, I hope to alter their course for the better. Every conversation with a parent is driven by the hope of enhancing their child’s experience. Though it's easy to succumb to skepticism in education, I choose hope every day.
As an educator, I strive to instill confidence in students' abilities. I can only share what I truly believe in myself, so it’s crucial for me to stay convinced of the significance of my work, its positive impact, and the improvement in students' lives due to my dedication. Clinging to these convictions with determination sustains my passion and commitment to teaching.
