LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP LIST
The following list contains scholarships that are available from the local area. These scholarships are available only to a graduating senior who plans to enroll as a full time student at a college or a technical school. Also, please notice that each of these scholarships has specific requirements and deadlines. In addition, some of these scholarships will be dependent upon whether or not funding is available and are subject to change.
 
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:
 
  • All scholarship applications should be returned to Mrs. Dickens no later than March 15 if the deadline for the scholarship has not already come due.
 
  • No scholarship will be forwarded to the scholarship committee if it is filled out in Pencil. Please use only black or blue ink.
 
  • Many of the scholarship applications require a letter of recommendation from a teacher. Please request these in a timely manner. Do not wait until the last minute.
 
  • Make sure you have answered and/or attached all of the requested items to your scholarship. For example: resume, picture, letters of recommendation, etc. 
 
  • If a signature is required from the applicant and a parent, please make sure this is complete.
 
  • I will fill in the GPA and Rank. I will also attach the transcript if required.
 
 
Remember, you are not the only senior that I have! If you wait until the last minute or past the deadline to turn in your scholarship applications, I may not be able to get them to the appropriate scholarship committee. Do Not Procrastinate!
 
 
 
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP LIST

ASCEND CREDIT UNION:  Ascend will award 10 scholarships at $2,500 each to students who are Ascend members. Scholarships will be awarded to five traditional and five non-traditional students for the 2023-2024 academic year. Application can be found online and the deadline is March 1.
 
BARRY STEWART SCHOLARSHIP: 
This scholarship is available to seniors graduating from Shelbyville Central High School. It was designed to give back to the community where Barry Stewart was born and raised. This goal is to be a positive influence on a recipient beginning their journey to their career. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and plan to attend a junior college, technical school, or university. Applications can be found online at BarryStewartScholarshp.wordpress.com.  Application deadline is January 31.

BEDFORD COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION:
The BCEA will offer two (2) $500 scholarships for two Bedford County graduates who plan to enter a career in teaching. Applicants must do well on the ACT and have a strong GPA. Application deadline is March 15.

BEDFORD COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION:
This is a $200 scholarship awarded to a Bedford County graduate who plans to enter a career in teaching. Applicants must write a brief essay, do well on the ACT, and have a strong GPA. Application deadline is March 15.

BEDFORD COUNTY SOIL CONSERVATION DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a Bedford County scholarship of $1000 for applicants who will major in an area of agriculture. Application deadline is April 1.
 
BEDFORD COUNTY UNITED METHODIST LAITY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $500 scholarship for seniors planning to attend a four-year university. Scholarship selections will be based on scholastic achievements, ACT, GPA, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Preference will be given to seniors attending a Methodist church in Bedford County. All applications must be submitted to the Guidance Office by March 15.
 
BETA SIGMAN PHI SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $1,000 scholarship offered to a female senior of Bedford County. The number of scholarships will vary and is awarded to the college of the student's choice. Application deadline is April 1.

BOB & MARY LYNN PRINCE SCHOLARSHIP:
This scholarship is based upon the applicant’s desire to further his or her education and financial need of the student and family. It is for seniors applying to Motlow or MTSU.  A minimum 2.0 GPA is required. Application deadline is March 15.

DANIEL MCCLENNEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $500 scholarship offered to a graduating senior in memory of Daniel McClenney. Application deadline is March 15.

DAVID ORR DONATE LIFE SCHOLARSHIP:
This scholarship was established to bring awareness to the critical need for human organ donation and is funded by contributions that were made upon David's death in January 2015. The value of the scholarship varies each year and is dependent upon the availability of funds. David Orr was a recipient of a double lung transplant. David’s vision was to help the younger generation be educated on organ awareness & giving the gift of life. This scholarship is designed for those students choosing a career in healthcare, research, nursing, advocacy, clinical trials, etc. that would benefit organ donation and awareness. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and planning to attend a four-year college. Application deadline is March 1.
 
DAVID T. CRAIG SCHOLARSHIP:
This $1,000 scholarship is for a Bedford County resident attending the University of Tennessee - Knoxville as an Agriculture major. Selection of the recipient will be based on criteria of scholastic achievement, school and community leadership, financial and physical need and desire by the applicant to further his/her education. Application deadline is April 1.
 
DELTA KAPPA GAMMA:
Offers one $400 scholarship to a graduating female senior from a Bedford County school who plans to become a teacher. Application deadline is March 1.

ELKS NURSING SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $1,200 a year scholarship paid out over four years, as long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA in college. Applicants must have at least an ACT score of 23, intend to pursue a nursing degree, have strong leadership skills, and is actively involved in the community. Applications can be found at www.tnelks.org. Application deadline is January 15.

ELKS TRADE SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a one-time scholarship to a 2-year trade school in the amount of $1,500, but students can reapply. Applications can be found at www.tnelks.org. Application deadline is January 15.

EPSILON SIGMA ALPHA:
Offers a $500 scholarship to a graduating female senior for college expenses. The criteria for this scholarship includes a high GPA, community service activities, and a financial need for continuing her education. Application deadline is April 1.
 
HAWKINS AND PRICE SCHOLARSHIP: 
This is a $1,000.00 scholarship awarded to one senior at SCHS who has plans to attend a post-secondary institution.

HERITAGE SOUTH:
Offers one $500 scholarship to a Bedford County senior. Applicant must personally be a current member of Heritage South Credit Union. Application deadline is March 15.

KIDS' CHANCE OF TENNESSEE SCHOLARSHIP:
Award amount is determined at the time the scholarship is awarded. Applicant must be a legal resident of the state of Tennessee and must have a parent who has suffered a catastrophic, permanently disabling, or fatal injury for which the parent or parent's family was entitled to receive benefits under the Tennessee Workers' Compensation Act. LIBERTY LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: This is a $100 scholarship for a graduating senior who  was a former Liberty School graduate.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS SCHOLARSHIP:
The Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors offers a scholarship to graduating seniors who plan to attend an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university physically located in one of the following counties: Bedford, Cannon, Coffee, Franklin, Grundy, Marion, Moore, Rutherford, or Warren counties. Application must be returned to the guidance office no later than March 24
 
NATHAN WEST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: 
This is a $1,000 scholarship open to any SCHS senior planning to attend any college. Applicant must write an essay on your plans for the future. Application deadline is April 1.
 
NISSAN INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP: 
Applicants must be planning to pursue a technical career. Senior must have a 2.5 overall GPA and been enrolled in one of the CTE programs offered at SCHS. Application deadline is March 8.

OPTIMIST SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $500 scholarship offered to a graduating senior to be used at the college of his or her choice. This scholarship requires an application and an interview. Application deadline is March 15.
 
POPLIN HISTORY AWARD/BEDFORD COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY:
The Bedford County Historical society is offering a $1,000 scholarship at each Bedford County High School. Citizenship in local community and school activities, scholarship in history and social studies, need in furthering academic/life goals, and overall academic and moral standing will be considered for the scholarship. Application deadline is March 15.
 
ROBERT L. YOUNG SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $1,000 scholarship for those graduating seniors planning to major in Engineering. Applicants must have an ACT composite score of 26 or higher, ACT sub-score in Math of 28 or higher, high school math/science/physics grade average of B or better, overall GPA of B or better, and must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application. Application deadline is February 20.

SCHS HEALTH CAREER SCHOLARSHIP: 
Offers one $1,000 scholarship to a student planning to pursue a career in the health field.
 
SHELBYVILLE BENEVOLENT LODGE OF FREE AND ACCEPTED MASONS SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $250 annual scholarship awarded to a student with a 3.0 GPA who plans to pursue a career in public service (law enforcement, nursing, education, etc.).
 
SHELBYVILLE POLICE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP: 
This is a $2000 scholarship awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in any law enforcement or law enforcement related field. 

SHELBYVILLE WOMEN’S CLUB:
This is a $1,000 scholarship to a Bedford County senior young lady planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college or any type of technical school. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Application deadline is March 15.

SHELTER INSURANCE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $2,000 scholarship given to a high school senior based upon academic achievement, leadership, citizenship, moral character, and educational goals. Application deadline is March 15.

SOUTHERN LONGBEARDS SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $1,000 scholarship awarded to students in Bedford County by the Southern Longbeards Association. This scholarship requires an application with a 500-word essay that explains what the outdoors means to you and why it is an important part of our lives. Application deadline is March 15.

TENNESSEE ASSOCIATION OF CONSERVATION SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $600 scholarship for applicants who will major in and pursue a career in the area of agriculture. The applicant must attend a Tennessee college or university. Applications can be found in the SCHS Guidance Office. Application deadline is February 1.

TENNESSEE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION:
Offers three scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each for high school seniors in the State of Tennessee, who plan to enroll in a Tennessee College. The scholarship awards are based on academic excellence, leadership abilities, economic need, and an interest in becoming a teacher. Applications can be found at Don-Sahli-Kathy Woodall Scholarship | TEA (tnea.org) and must be submitted by March 1.
 
TENNESSEE MOOSE ASSOCIATION: 
This organization offers a $1,000 scholarship for outstanding community service activities in which the applicant has performed during his/her high school years. The applicant's parent, grandparent, or legal guardian must be in good standing in a Tennessee Moose Lodge or WOTM Chapter. Application deadline is March 1.

TENNESSEE PTA SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $1000 scholarship for students who will attend a college in Tennessee, have a need for financial aid and must pursue a career in a child-related field. Applications can be obtained at www.tnpta.org or through the Guidance Office. Application deadline is March 15.
 
TIMS FORD REGION of the AUTOMOBILE CLUB of AMERICA (AACA): 
The AACA is sponsoring a scholarship to a student with automotive interest. This student should be planning to attend TCAT or a community college for the 2023-24 school year. This scholarship will be #1,000. Areas of interest would include but are not limited to the following: welding, auto body paint and repair, computer subsystems, heating and air, and electrical. Application deadline to the club is February 10.

TSAC:
These are state grants that must be used at a Tennessee college and are awarded only to residents of Tennessee. Each scholarship requires a separate application and can be found on the TSAC’s website at www.state.tn.us/tsac.
 
NED McWHERTER SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $6000 renewable scholarship. Applicant must have a 29 ACT and a 3.5 GPA to apply. The application is available at:
www.tn.gov/collegepays/money-for-college/state-of-tennessee-programs/nedmcwherter-scholars-program.html  A 7th semester transcript and a counselor signature page must be sent to TSAC by the February 15 deadline.
 
THEDREAM.US NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP:
This scholarship is for highly motivated DREAMers who want to attend college. Applications are open to undocumented immigrant students with or without DACA or TPS who came to the U.S. before the age of 16 and before November 1, 2017. The application can be found at the following website: www.thedream.us/scholarships/national-scholarhip.  The award is renewable each year - the applicant must meet the continuing eligibility criteria. National Scholarship will cover tuition and fees up to maximum of $16,500 for an Associate's and $33,000 for a Bachelor's Degree at one of the partner colleges. Application deadline is February 28

TULLAHOMA VISION SCHOLARSHIP:
This is a $500 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior that plans to major in a science field. The applicant must write a 500-word essay regarding his/her educational plans. Applications must be received by March 1.

VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION:
If you have a diagnosed impairment or illness that prevents you from working under normal circumstances, you may qualify for a scholarship under Vocational Rehabilitation. Contact 931-685-5017 for information.
