Extra Credit Opportunities

1st 9 Weeks Extra Credit Opportunities 
1st Semester Students Due: October 4th.         
2nd Semester Students Due: March 6th
You can only do TWO opportunities.
At any point in the year or EVER, extra credit DOES NOT apply to assignments that have a zero. 
1. Create a collage about any short story we've read so far. 10 points
2. Create 5 memes about any short story we've read so far. 10 points
3. Create a Power Point about the theme and symbolism in Margaret Atwood's essay "Bread". 20 points
4. Paint a portrait of any character or author we have read about. 20 points
5. Create a brochure about any setting we've read so far. This must include text evidence that describes the setting as well as 3 pictures. 20 points
6. Create a video in which you interview one of the characters. (You can have a friend or relative play the character, you can be the character, or you can use a pet or toy to be the character and you can supply its voice). 30 points
7. Film a 3 minute video of yourself talking about the hobbies that you love to do. 15 points
 
2nd 9 weeks Extra Credit Opportunities
1st Semester Students Due: December 11th.
Second Semester Students Due: May 15th
You can only do TWO opportunities.

1. Make a colorful Christmas card addressed to a character we have read about so far this year. 10 pts.
2. Create a wish list of gifts that a character we've read about would want (This must be realistic to the character and time period...) 10 pts.
3. Create a picture collage about any story we've read so far this year. 15 pts. 
4. Create a contemporary brochure that features the city of Verona, Italy and the attractions it has today. 20 pts. 
5. Make a video with toys to recreate the balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet. 25 pts. 
6. Paint a coffee mug that features pictures or quotes from any story we've read. 20 pts. 
7. Dress up your pet as any fictional character and take a selfie with your pet. 10 pts.
8. Film yourself doing 5 random acts of kindness. 10 pts. 
9. Film yourself lip synching the song "Check Yes Juliet" by We the Kings or "Love Story" by Taylor Swift. 20 pts. 
10. Film an interview with an adult about their first job experience and opinion on teens and jobs. Ask them the following questions - What was your first job? How did you feel about it? How long did you do this job? What skills did you learn from this job? Have you applied these skills in future jobs? What is your opinion on teenagers having jobs during high school? Should they have this experience or should they only focus on school and why? 25 points.
11. Create a collage about your future self. You can include things like what job you want to have in the future, what certifications or degrees you want, what pets you would like to have, a family, wedding, house, places you would like to visit, an instrument you would like to play, etc. These are suggestions. Include any positive and school appropriate pictures you want. This collage is about YOU so make it significant and special. You need at least 8 pictures. 15 points
12. Paint or draw a self-portrait showing you working your dream job. 15 points.
13. Write a poem about your future. This poem must be at least 10 lines long. 15 points.
14. Watch a G-rated movie, Then, download, print, and fill out the following worksheet. story map template 17.docx  25 points.
15. Create a card game about any story we've read this school year. You must write the directions to this card game. Then you must take a video of yourself and other players playing the game, explaining it as you go. 25 points.
16. Complete two CommonLit assignments by annotating the text, taking the assessments, and answer the discussion questions on a sheet of notebook paper. Please let me know if this is the extra credit you would like to do so I can give you those assignments. 25 points.
17. Paint any character or symbol from the book To Kill A Mockingbird on a canvas and include a quote from the novel. It must only be painted. No drawings, electronic versions, etc. 25 points.
